'Busy' bee-ing a Food Hero in Dominica
21 September 2021 - Fascinated by bees from a young age, Agnan 'Busy' St. Louis eventually became a beekeeper and began a family business selling honey and other products. Busy now has hives located in 13 different areas of Dominica, altogether totalling 275 hives with about 50,000 bees in each hive. (more)

Dominican Republic's more humane prison model
22 May 2014 - Gone are the satellite dishes that once crowded the prison rooftop, feeding signals to flat-screen TVs in the private suites for which drug lords and other wealthy inmates used to pay upwards of $25,000. In their place classrooms are being constructed, creating more space for the prison to reach its goal of zero per cent illiteracy and offer university-level courses. The transformation of Najayo prison, long a symbol of the overcrowding and corruption that plagues Latin American jails, is part of a dramatic overhaul that has reshaped the Dominican Republic's penitentiary system. Dominica ranked among top ethical countries for 2014
12 March 2014 - Dominica has been ranked among the top ten ethical countries in the world by the magazine Ethical Traveler. Every year the magazine reviews the policies and practices of scores of nations in the developing world to compile the list. Dominica is among three countries, which made it to the top ten in 2014 for the first time. A plan by the island to become carbon negative -- that is, minimize and offset carbon emissions -- by 2020 helped Dominica make the cut. (more)

Transcendental Meditation practice alleviating ADHD in Caribbean schools
25 August 2013 - Study suggests the TM technique may change brain in important ways to help ADHD. Select schools throughout the Caribbean island of Dominica have begun to employ the Transcendental Meditation technique as a stress-management tool to help students reduce symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Teachers and parents have seen a noticeable improvement. But more important, research suggests that TM practice may alleviate ADHD by actually changing the brain. (more)

Transcendental Meditation helping students with ADHD in the Caribbean
25 May 2013 - Schools in the Caribbean are beginning to utilize Transcendental Meditation to help students with ADHD. The children who have learned the technique can focus better in school, are much better behaved, do their homework with greater ease, and have more success in their studying for tests, according to their teachers. Dominica: 101 prison inmates and officers learn Transcendental Meditation
22 January 2011 - Among many new initiatives developing in Dominica in the past year, 93 inmates and 8 officers have learned the Transcendental Meditation Technique in a continuing rehabilitation programme at a prison. The men have reported health benefits including reduction in anxiety, depression, and hyperactivity, as well as normalization of blood pressure and diabetes. (more)

Dominica: Transcendental Meditation proposed to prevent and treat chronic diseases
22 January 2011 - During a national meeting on health in Dominica, the Transcendental Meditation Technique was proposed as a potential solution for preventing and treating chronic non-communicable diseases. Now government leaders, prison administrators, and inmates talk about the results--the Superintendent of Prisons describes the programme as 'one of the most effective ways of rehabilitation for inmates'. 12 March 2010 - At the state prison in Dominica, 8 officers and 53 inmates have learnt the Transcendental Meditation Programme in the past four weeks. The inmates now participate in twice daily group practice of the technique, and many have reported feeling calmer, less anger, and increased happiness as a result. (more)

Among other areas of national life beginning to adopt programmes of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, a project is being organized to introduce the Transcendental Meditation Programme to native Caribbean peoples.
