In many parts of the world, more people are learning about and enjoying the benefits of programmes and technologies of consciousness founded by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, including the Transcendental Meditation programme. A recent review focused on new developments in several countries in Asia, the Middle East, Oceania, and Africa— as well as in Maharishi Vedic City in Iowa, USA.

In India Dr Robert Wynne, Mayor of Maharishi Vedic City in Iowa, USA,* met with directors of an initiative through which large groups of Maharishi Vedic Pandits have been coming from India to participate in the Invincible America Assembly in Maharishi Vedic City. The Assembly is a large group of advanced Transcendental Meditation practitioners established by Maharishi in 2006 to create a powerful influence of coherence and positivity in the collective consciousness of the USA.

Through their daily practice of Transcendental Meditation and its advanced techniques, plus special peace-creating technologies in which they are highly trained experts, the Maharishi Vedic Pandits have been making an important contribution to the growth of coherent national consciousness, to support peace, harmony, and prosperity for the nation, Mayor Wynne said.

In Pakistan, Dr Ashok Kumar and his wife have been teaching Transcendental Meditation to many people, primarily in the Karachi area. Dr Kumar has also been very active publicizing the Transcendental Meditation programme. He has been interviewed on two different local television stations, and has spoken on Consciousness-Based Education and the Stress-Free Schools programme at local schools.

In other news from the Middle East, an ancient city in northern Iraq hosted a Transcendental Meditation teacher from Europe, who taught the first Transcendental Meditation course held in the region for some time.

Armenia is a '1% country', said Dr Wynne, explaining that 1% of the population has learned Transcendental Meditation over time, and also that the square root of 1% has learned the advanced Transcendental Meditation Sidhi programme, including Yogic Flying. This is the formula identified by scientists and demonstrated many times through scientific research to be sufficient for achieving the Maharishi Effect of reduced social stress, crime, and violence and increased harmony and peace in national consciousness.

In 1989-90, Dr Wynne and his wife, Dr Maureen Wynne, were members of a team of faculty from Maharishi University of Management in the USA who were invited to the country and instructed many thousands of Armenians in Transcendental Meditation. Visiting Armenia again after 23 years, he noted many positive developments and great dynamism and progress in the country.

In Africa, a highlight for Kenyans who practise Transcendental Meditation has been the construction of a large community hall in which the 700 people who have learned Transcendental Meditation and Yogic Flying can practise together as a coherence-creating group.

Silverdale, in the northern part of Auckland, is home to the Maharishi Spiritual Capital of New Zealand, which serves as the administrative centre of the Transcendental Meditation programme for the whole country. The Stress-Free Schools initiative, established in New Zealand under the Consciousness-Based Education programme, has been very successful for both students and teachers.

Back home in Maharishi Vedic City, Dr Wynne's ongoing efforts have transformed the 'conventional cornfields of Iowa' into fertile ground for organic agriculture, an observer commented. In a city where many programmes for development of consciousness are available, where Consciousness-Based Education provides an ideal learning environment for students from kindergarten to PhD, where Maharishi Ayur-Veda health care and Maharishi Vastu architecture housing are readily available, residents enjoy creating an ideal community where everyone has the opportunity to live a happy, fulfilling life in a peaceful, harmonious society.

Global Good News will report more about developments in Armenia and Pakistan.
