The recently released documentary film by David Lynch, Meditation, Creativity, Peace, chronicles the award-winning director's 16-country, 2007-2009 tour. Though he was often asked about his creative process and his films, another important purpose of the tour was to help establish invincible universities in each of the countries visited.

Mr Lynch spoke often about this.

When a reporter in Helsinki, Finland, asked Mr Lynch, 'Can you tell the Finnish TV audience why you are visiting here?', Mr Lynch answered: 'I'm visiting here to establish an invincible Finland university.'

But what is an invincible university?

In Tallinn, Estonia, a reporter asked the director, 'Yesterday you said in our news that you want to create an invincible university here. What does that mean actually?'

Mr Lynch responded, 'I'll tell you. Invincible in this state has nothing to do with military. Zero. It is invincible—another word you could say is dynamic peace, a kind of a peace that means that no harm can come from within Estonia and nothing bad, nothing negative can come from without to harm Estonia.'

Mr Lynch was referring to principles brought out by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in his offer to bring invincibility to every country and create permanent world peace. Maharishi explained that an invincible university is one which creates such an indomitable effect of coherence in the nation that no negativity can come to its citizens from within or without.

This level of coherence in society is created through the group practice of Transcendental Meditation and its advanced programmes. Mr Lynch spoke extensively about Transcendental Meditation on the 16-country tour.

He explained to a reporter in France about the experience of consciousness during the process of transcending* in Transcendental Meditation—an experience he referred to often on the tour.

'This consciousness has qualities. Infinite creativity, intelligence, energy, love, power, bliss, dynamic peace. [It has] always been there, never had a beginning. It is and it will be forever. . . . Any human being can experience this easily and effortlessly with Transcendental Meditation. Transcendental Meditation is just a vehicle to get you there.'

Maharishi explained that when a large group of people experience this fundamental field of transcendental consciousness together, these positive qualities become enlivened in the whole population, thus creating the effect of invincibility.

* Transcending: The settling down of the mind to experience increasingly refined levels of the thinking process, eventually going beyond the finest level of thinking to experience pure awareness, the silent, unbounded field of transcendental consciousness, the basis of the mind's activity. Transcendental Meditation promotes the effortless process of transcending in a systematic, reliable, repeatable manner.
