'One of the wonderful things happening in New Zealand at the moment is all the construction of Maharishi Vastu [buildings],' said Martin Davy, director of the Transcendental Meditation organization in the country.

He mentioned a Transcendental Meditation teacher who owns about 18 acres [7.3 hectares] and already has three Vastu* properties on the land. He is interested in using the remainder of the land for Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture and for the development of a Maharishi Ayur-Veda health spa, built according to Vastu architecture.

There are also Vastu developments in progress in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch. With all this interest, Mr Davy spoke of a new initiative in New Zealand to help everyone who wants to—including people who practise Transcendental Meditation, as well as the general public—to start enjoying the benefits of living in Maharishi Vastu homes as quickly and easily as possible.

Finding appropriate land, creating a perfect Vastu design, explaining to builders about Vastu architecture, and checking to make sure all specifications are met is more than many busy working people have time for.

'We are creating a company that will work with people wanting to be in Vastu,' said Mr Davy. 'This company will organize for the contractors, the project managers, and the design, and then people will just be able to move into their Vastu house very easily. They will ask for a Vastu house and this company will take care of everything.'

Another step to meet the high demand for Vastu buildings is that three or four people are just finishing a Maharishi Vastu training course at Maharishi European Research University in the Netherlands. There are currently only three Vastu experts in New Zealand, but Mr Davy explained that 'with these three or four new consultants coming through . . . we'll really be able to expand all our activities in New Zealand and be seeing a lot more construction of Maharishi Sthapatya Veda' (Vastu) buildings.

* Vastu refers to Vedic architecture—the complete knowledge of design and building in accord with natural law—brought to light from the Vedic literature by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and known as Maharishi Sthapatya Veda.
