Celebrating 'a miraculous field of total wakefulness of total knowledge' - Maharishi

On 31 July, the organizations of the Global Country of World Peace* in many countries participated in the festival of Guru Purnima, the full moon day in July which each year honours the great teachers of the Vedic tradition of knowledge—the source of the programmes and technologies of consciousness brought to the world over 50 years by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

Ten years ago, on this occasion on 21 July 2005, Maharishi celebrated Guru Purnima at Maharishi European Research University (MERU) in the Netherlands.

In his inaugural address Maharishi praised the knowledge of the 'Constitution of the Universe' that came from the timeless Vedic tradition. He described the Constitution of the Universe as the unified field of total natural law, the laws of nature 'that are always nourishing, supporting, and always evolutionary to everyone, spontaneously from within and from without, that field of Total Knowledge which is every aspect of life in parts, or in whole—life as a unified wholeness of all the innumerable parts, and life in terms of parts.'

The Constitution of the Universe is 'spontaneously functioning in its entirety, here, there and everywhere, from point of creation, to infinitely extended and ever-expanding universe,' Maharishi said.

He also described the Constitution of the Universe as 'a miraculous field of total wakefulness of Total Knowledge'. The knowledge and experience of this field is being applied through the many programmes and institutions Maharishi founded for every area of society, including Transcendental Meditation and its advanced techniques, to enrich every aspect of human life.

The beneficial effects of Maharishi's programmes have been documented by scientific research showing improved health and a better quality of life for people in many countries.

Maharishi's address from 2005 was played during a conference held today at MERU, attended by directors of Maharishi's programmes from around the world. The conference was chaired by neuroscientist Tony Nader, MD, PhD, who was honoured by Maharishi for his discovery of human physiology as the expression of Veda and the Vedic literature, with the title Maharaja Adhiraj Rajaraam, and the responsibility of guiding the activities of the Global Country of World Peace around the world.
