BBC news reports: Crime in England and Wales down 10%

A recent BBC news headline, 'Crime in England and Wales down 10%, survey shows,' is an example of the trends of time changing for the better, said the Chairman of Maharishi Foundation UK, Dr Peter Warburton. The statistics are from the British Crime Survey.
People in the UK no longer rely on police statistics, Dr Warburton explained, because they tend to vary depending on police methods of monitoring crime, and are considered less reliable. Representatives from the Crime Survey interview a large cross-section of the population about crimes experienced in the last 12-month period, which are tabulated by household. This is considered to give a much more accurate picture, and the government Office for National Statistics compiles and publishes the results annually.
Crime levels in Wales and England are the lowest now since they started keeping records over 30 years ago. In 1981 there were about 10 crimes per household, after which they rose to a peak in 1993 and 1994. In September 2013 the number had decreased to about 8.
Dr Warburton said this positive indicator, reduced crime, of a better quality of life is taking place throughout the Western world. The news media are often baffled by the trend; also baffling the experts is that the decrease in crime continued throughout the economic downturn—circumstances when crime traditionally has tended to rise.
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi predicted that evidence of changing trends of time would be found in just this kind of event, Dr Warburton said. Scores of scientific research studies, starting as early as 1975, have found that in cities and towns throughout the world where as little as one per cent of the population practises Transcendental Meditation, the trend of rising crime is reversed. This reversal indicates increasing order and harmony in society. Researchers named the phenomenon the Maharishi Effect, because it was the realization of Maharishi's promise to society. The Maharishi Effect can be measured on the level of cities, provinces, nations, and the world as a whole.
With the introduction of the advanced Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme, a more powerful effect of coherence in collective consciousness was predicted. The first major demonstration of this effect took place in 1978 during Maharishi's Global Ideal Society Campaign in 108 countries, when it was found that crime, violence, and conflict decreased in all locations.
