In the past year over 46,000 people in India have learned Transcendental Meditation, and over 6,500 have also learned the advanced Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme.
When they practise Transcendental Meditation and create coherence in themselves, they are also contributing to greater coherence in the nation,* said Dr Girish Varma, in a recent report on the success of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's programmes in India, of which he is director.
Dr Varma is also Chairman of the 148 Maharishi Vidya Mandir Schools Group and Director-General of the Global Capital of World Peace at the centre of the country.
Dr Varma expects even more people will be learning Transcendental Meditation in the coming year, which will add to coherence in national consciousness. Following a conference on teaching principles earlier this year, attended by over 400 teachers of the technique, they are all inspired to bring the programme's many benefits for reduced stress, good health, and success in life to people throughout the nation.
As coherence in the country has increased, Dr Varma said, the media office of the Transcendental Meditation organization has been looking closely at trends in the broadcast media, on the Internet, and in print to gauge the positive developments that are happening in the country.
Dr Varma reported many positive trends occurring in the last year, including a decrease in ethnic conflicts; increased employment opportunities; increase in the health budget and health facilities; increase in organic agriculture, products, and exports; and an increase in spiritual and religious leanings among the population.
The field of education is also improving rapidly, he said, citing an increase in the education budget in both the national and many state governments, increased number of educational institutions, and increased number of students going on to higher education.
Meanwhile, economic growth in India continues at a fast pace and relations with neighboring countries also seem to be improving.
* Dr Varma was referring to scientific research showing reduced stress and development of more orderly, integrated brain functioning as a result of regular practice of Transcendental Meditation. Research has also found that when large numbers of people are practising the technique and its advanced programmes in cities and nations, coherence and orderliness spread in the collective consciousness, reducing crime and violence and enlivening peace and harmony in society.
