In several countries in central and southeastern Europe new opportunities are arising for people to learn Transcendental Meditation, and the meditation technique and related programmes of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi are becoming increasingly popular, especially among young, active people.

In the Czech Republic, interest in Transcendental Meditation and Maharishi's programmes to create coherence and peace in the world is increasing. Young people are coming to the Czech Republic from abroad to learn Transcendental Meditation, which is publicized on the national website for Transcendental Meditation and on a Transcendental Meditation page on Facebook®.

During the past year seminars and courses were held in the eastern part of the Czech Republic, near the border with Slovakia, and also in Slovakia itself.

An article about Transcendental Meditation, 'The Silence of the Mind is Healing', was published in a well-known monthly journal, Respekt. The article featured the beneficial effects of Transcendental Meditation on health, how it can be used in schools, and its effectiveness in treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in veterans.

There are two new teachers of Transcendental Meditation in the region—one in the Czech Republic and one in Slovakia. This has led to more interest in Transcendental Meditation. Group practice of Transcendental Meditation is ongoing in Prague, and also in Miroslav in South Moravia. Scientific research has shown that groups of people practising Transcendental Meditation and its advanced programmes contribute to increased coherence and positive trends in society, and decreased social stress, crime, and violence. As in the Czech Republic, in Slovakia many young people are drawn to learning Transcendental Meditation.

Dr Bevan Morris, President of Maharishi University of Management in the USA, visited Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, where he made a presentation to practitioners of Transcendental Meditation about the growing success of Maharishi's programmes around the world.

In related news, further to the south in the Balkan region of Europe, practitioners of Transcendental Meditation in Bosnia and Herzegovina enjoyed a showing of the internationally acclaimed film, Meditation, Creativity, Peace, at a theatre in Sarajevo. The film is a documentary of renowned director David Lynch's 16-country tour of Europe several years ago, promoting the individual and global impact of Transcendental Meditation. After the screening members of the audience were able to address their questions directly to Mr Lynch via a live link to the United States.
