Close to 1,000 people learned Transcendental Meditation in Canada in the past year. Three times as many Canadians began the practice compared to three years ago, said Dr William Overall, director of the Transcendental Meditation programme in Canada. Contributing to the increase has been rising interest in Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's programmes in cities across the country.
The Transcendental Meditation Centre in Toronto, the fourth largest urban area in North America, is established in a prestigious downtown location. Responding to increasing interest in the last four years teachers have been offering more courses in Maharishi's programmes and technologies of consciousness.
In Ottawa a new Centre for teaching Transcendental Meditation has been established, inspiring more people to participate in the programme.
Teachers in Vancouver, British Columbia, have also begun initiatives to help make Maharishi's programmes more widely available to people in the area.
Also in British Columbia, the Victoria School for Ideal Education celebrated its 25th year offering Consciousness-Based Education to the children of the area. The school board and a Victoria city council member honoured the school principal on the occasion with flowers and a plaque. The student body has nearly doubled, from 17 to 30.
With a maximum class size of 12, the school provides quality attention to each child. In a stress free, dynamic, peaceful, and nurturing environment, daily practice of Transcendental Meditation for students and teachers develops clearer thinking, creativity, happier relationships and improved self esteem.
Two Canadian tours by Maharishi Ayur-Veda* experts, called Vaidyas, resulted in over 300 consultations in this comprehensive system of natural health care.
Maharishi Vedic Village, located near Niagara Falls, when completed will be a Maharishi Vastu community with more than 2,000 residents. It will be the home to Canada's first Maharishi Tower of Invincibility, along with a number of other features representing Maharishi's peace-creating technologies of consciousness, and will provide many different options for housing.
* Ayurveda is the world's oldest, most comprehensive system of natural medicine, which originated in the Vedic civilization of ancient India and is now officially recognized by the World Health Organization. Maharishi Ayur-Veda is the modern restoration by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi of the complete and authentic practice of Ayurveda as recorded in the Vedic texts.
