Dr John Hagelin began his recent tour of South Korea with a news conference to announce the 'Korea Peace Initiative: A Brain-Based Approach to Preventing Violence and Social Conflict'.

At the news conference, Dr Hagelin unveiled his offer of $1 million to train 1,000 troops of the Republic of Korea (ROK) in scientifically proven technologies for national security and peace. Dr Hagelin, a renowned quantum physicist, offered this initiative in his role as president of the Global Union of Scientists for Peace (GUSP), a group focused on providing innovative solutions for peace, and with the support of the David Lynch Foundation.

A news release from GUSP described the initiative:

'Dr. Hagelin said the $1 million pledge from GUSP will be used to train the 1,000 ROK soldiers. He also said GUSP will engage independent university neuroscientists and social scientists in Seoul to monitor the effectiveness of the approach.'

This innovative approach to creating peace would require just 1,000 troops from among the 650,000 troops currently on active duty, or from the over 3 million in reserves. The idea is that GUSP would be training people whose profession it already is to protect the country, and who are already paid by the government and taxpayers to create and maintain peace.

According to one of the organizers of the tour, Dr Hagelin was in Korea simply to give these soldiers the tools to succeed in their jobs.

The same organizer reported on Dr Hagelin's initial news conference:

'Dr Hagelin presented in such a compelling, such a scientific and clear way. . . . the logic was so impeccable, so perfect and so scientific.'

The organizer added that Dr Hagelin's tour 'brought a huge wave of inspiration to the whole country'.

Indeed, momentum from the tour is continuing even after he left the country.

Dr Lee, a leading teacher of Transcendental Meditation in South Korea, is already instructing a few people who attended Dr Hagelin's conferences and lectures in the technique.

Dr Lee and the other organizers hope the launch of this initiative will have long-standing repercussions, quickly and permanently bringing peace to the region.
