The Transcendental Meditation Programme has been taught in Armenia for only a little over 20 years, but it has developed a strong following in the country, with over 1% of the population practising the technique.
The group of meditators there like to have conference calls once a week so they can keep in touch with each other and relay the latest news. They find it also helps foster a sense of community.
'There is a lot of enthusiasm and dynamism,' reported Dr Robert Wynne, administrator of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's programmes in Armenia, Pakistan, Kenya, and other countries. The same enthusiasm is a common factor in Pakistan and Kenya as well, he said recently, discussing the achievements of the past year in these three countries.
In Pakistan, two new Transcendental Meditation instructors, a husband and wife, are finding great success. The wife recently taught over 100 people in one weekend in a city near Karachi, where the Transcendental Meditation centre is located.
The centre has received very helpful support from local people, who have donated land and buildings for Transcendental Meditation teaching centres and Consciousness-Based Education schools.
'I gave a conference talk to 90 professionals in one of the buildings' that has been donated for the centre's use, said Dr Wynne. He spoke about invincibility at the conference and received a very enthusiastic response from the audience.
There is a lot of enthusiasm in Kenya as well. There are currently two school projects which are utilizing Consciousness-Based Education to provide a uniquely effective education rooted in the knowledge and experience of consciousness.
In addition, Mr Wynne said, there is a feeling of great potential in the country. 'They have a new constitution, another election coming up, and their neighbors are generally friendly.' Dr Wynne attributes these and other positive developments to rising coherence in collective consciousness from all the people practising Transcendental Meditation.
Kenya is also participating in the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Maharishi's knowledge and programmes across Africa. It was the first African country Maharishi visited in 1961, and will host a visit by Dr Bevan Morris, President of Maharishi University of Management, during his 14-country tour of the continent.
