Survey finds 78% of Britons satisfied with life: More trends reflect rising coherence in the nation

More positive trends in the UK—including economic growth and increased use of renewable energy sources—highlight the success of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's programmes in reducing social stress and increasing coherence in society, say teachers of the Transcendental Meditation Programme.
Several other new developments were discussed as a year-end report continued.
One such significant trend emerges from the ability to measure the positivity and quality of life in the country.
An article in The Independent reported that most Britons are 'satisfied with life'. It states, 'The majority of British people are happy in spite of gloomy economic news and social disorder over the summer, according to new figures.'
The survey was carried out by the Office of National Statistics for the British government. It found that 78% of people said they were satisfied with their life, many saying that they were not anxious or stressed.
This is a positive development because it shows an overall level of contentment, and also that the British government is invested in measuring and increasing happiness in the country.
When the new government was elected in the UK, they mentioned they wanted to have a Department of Happiness to measure progress not just in terms of economics, like Gross Domestic Product, but in terms of happiness and satisfaction of the people.
This is another good sign of changing times, said Dr Peter Warburton, Chairman of Maharishi Foundation UK. Maharishi often spoke about the 'mad pursuit of wealth', he said, and how when people achieve wealth they realize that it doesn't bring happiness, that happiness comes from within.
Dr Warburton said, 'The fact that the government is now measuring the happiness and satisfaction of people as a sign of progress and growth in the country, rather than just gross domestic product or economic indicators, is a good sign.'
Some additional positive trends include continued economic recovery, increased reliance on renewable energy, and a project spearheaded by Richard Branson to provide small loans to poor people.
