A year-end report from the UK highlighted news stories about several positive trends. These trends are a reflection of rising coherence in national consciousness, according to teachers of the Transcendental Meditation Programme, indicating the success of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's programmes aimed at reducing social stress and increasing positivity in society.

The first positive trend can be summed up by an article which appeared in the Guardian. The title is 'Football fan arrests fall to record low', and a subtitle explains, 'Figures down by 300 on previous season for England and Wales, with no arrests made at 70% of games.'

Crime Prevention Minister Lord Henley remarked, 'Football policing is a real British success story. Hooliganism was once described as ''the English disease''. We now set an example for others to follow.'

Football arrests are at the lowest level since records started to be gathered in 1984.

'This is a sign of growing coherence and orderliness in society,' said Dr Peter Warburton, Chairman of Maharishi Foundation UK.

Another trend that was noted is related to an increase in charitable giving in the corporate world.

An article from The Independent titled 'New plan to boost corporate giving' reports that charities could reap an extra £1 billion a year under think-tank proposals unveiled to 'turbocharge' corporate giving.

The Centre for Social Justice unveiled the plan the day after Christmas, Dr Warburton said, summarizing the article. It's a tax-relief scheme designed to encourage businesses to subsidize voluntary work for charities carried out by their employees. It's a way of giving people time off work while benefiting charitable organizations. The company gets tax benefits, the individual gets paid, even while they work for the charity, and the charity gets assistance and volunteers.

'It is a good sign of the changing trends of time,' Dr Warburton remarked.
