The past year has seen substantial growth of interest in Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's programmes in cities across Australia, including Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, and Woodbridge in Tasmania. Several cities have established new centres for the teaching of Transcendental Meditation, with steadily increasing numbers of people coming to learn the stress-reducing technique.

In Sydney, one of the most influential and beautiful cities in Australia, a new Transcendental Meditation centre has been established. A large office suite in a building in Sydney's financial district was acquired in 2011 and completely refurbished to serve this function.

The city has seen a continual increase in people learning Transcendental Meditation and attending group meditations. There has also been a consistently growing number of people learning the advanced Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme, including Yogic Flying.

All this interest and activity has kept three full-time Transcendental Meditation teachers busy, as well as three part-time teachers.

In other parts of Australia, many Transcendental Meditation teachers have also reported rising interest in programmes in their home cities. This is not only bringing benefits of reduced stress and better health and productivity to more individuals, but also contributing to rising coherence in the nation, especially through their regular group meditations and Yogic Flying.

In Brisbane, in northeast Australia, there has also been a steady increase in people learning Transcendental Meditation and attending group meditations. In fact, the last quarter of the year saw a dramatic increase in Transcendental Meditation courses, with double the number of people compared to the prior thee quarters.

One very significant development there is an increase in personal and professional referrals from people who have learned Transcendental Meditation. Referrals have been effective in inspiring friends and colleagues to learn the technique, and are also a positive sign of the success of the meditation practice.

Local businesses in Brisbane have also expressed interest in their staff learning the technique.

In Perth, a group of teachers is meeting regularly to plan for the expansion of programmes in the city, including the future acquisition of a Transcendental Meditation centre.

Lastly, the state of Tasmania now has a Transcendental Meditation teaching centre in the city of Woodbridge, which is a little south of the capital city, Hobart. The establishment of this centre has resulted in a steady series of courses for people to learn Transcendental Meditation, as well as group meditations and other advanced programmes for those already practising.
