Success of Change Begins Within gala: Expression of rising collective consciousness

The great success of the recent third annual Change Begins Within benefit gala in Los Angeles, California, USA was an indication of a large-scale paradigm shift, said Bob Roth, vice president of the David Lynch Foundation, which organized the event.

Mr Roth commented that in promoting the Foundation's programmes to help high-risk groups overcome the effects of traumatic stress through the Transcendental Meditation Technique, he is often now encountering an open-mindedness he didn't see before.

'Everybody that we come across, this is all so clear to them. They want to experience the fourth state of consciousness [transcendence].* Any meditation that doesn't give that experience, that doesn't give deep rejuvenating rest, that's not effortless, is not worth the time.'

According to Mr Roth, more and more people are wanting the 'bliss of transcendence' without the struggle and strain of concentration. And the role of the meditation teacher is to just keep planting seeds. Sometimes the message is delivered through a doctor, physician, celebrity, business executive, architect, educator, or a military person.

'Plant the seed and if the soil is fertile, the seed grows,' said Mr Roth. 'Over the last few years we've been doing these [Change Begins Within] galas, it's just exponential the power, the influence, and the bliss for the people in the audience that the same knowledge is generating.'

'As great as the concert was with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr [the first gala, in 2009], as sublime . . . as the Metropolitan Museum of Art gala was that we held in New York last year, this one was exponentially greater.'

The same knowledge is presented at each gala, Mr Roth said, therefore we can attribute this phenomenon to rising collective consciousness, to an amazing level of receptivity and openness. 'The rise of collective consciousness is dissipating the fog of illusion,' he concluded.

* Transcendence or transcendental consciousness, the state of restful alertness experienced during the practice of the Transcendental Meditation Technique, has been shown through physiological research to be a fourth major state of consciousness, distinct from waking, dreaming, and deep sleep.
