On 6 October 2011, the foundation stones were put in place for the first Maharishi Peace Palace in Europe. This Peace Palace, located in Erfurt, Germany, is being built according to the principles of Maharishi Vastu architecture, Baubiologie (healthy building standards), and other sustainable building approaches.

It is a model Peace Palace, being developed with care and precision to uphold the high standards established by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi for these structures that will be 'the pride of the city'.

Careful attention has been paid to every aspect of the building, especially to its conformity with the life-supporting principles of Maharishi Vastu. Determining the exact location of the centre of the building, or the Brahmasthan, is crucial. The surveyors used GPS technology for this and other measurements, but were not satisfied until they had doublechecked their work.

Dr Eckart Stein, leader of the Peace Palace project, elaborated. 'What you really have to do if you want to have the precision which Sthapatya Veda (Vastu architecture) requires, you have to go by the pole star.' In the middle of the night, he said, the surveyors came once again and measured by the pole star, to confirm the location of the building was correctly placed for optimum support of Natural Law.

In addition to adherence with Maharishi Vastu technology, the design and layout of the new Erfurt Peace Palace reflect the extensive planning and detailed attention devoted to the entire Peace Palace project by Maharishi during 2004, which was 'the year of Maharishi Peace Palaces', Dr Stein explained.

When construction is finished, the building will be 600 square metres with two-and-a-half storeys.

The layout of the building is ideally suited to its purposes. The ground floor has 'everything you should have in a Maharishi Peace Palace,' Dr Stein said. It is dedicated to Maharishi's programmes for health and personal development, including knowledge exhibitions, a meditation centre, and rooms for group practice of the advanced Yogic Flying programme.

The upper floor will have offices and living space for the Peace Palace directors.

Lastly, there will be a half storey under the roof consisting of guest rooms. This will allow the Peace Palace to host short-term and longer-term meditation courses, and the building to fulfil its name and goal of spreading a positive, peaceful influence throughout the community and the country.
