David Lynch Foundation documentary on Father Mejia inspires audiences in Colombia

A documentary film on the work of Father Gabriel Mejia, created by David Lynch Foundation Television, is now in cinemas in Colombia, and will soon be shown in other Latin American nations.

The documentary shows how Father Mejia began his work in 1984, founding the first youth rehabilitation centre where residents practised the Transcendental Meditation Technique. Today, Father Mejia has centres in every country of Latin America, with hundreds of staff members, and thousands of children and teens benefiting.

He began by introducing Transcendental Meditation into his centres; now many youth residents also practise the advanced Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme, including Yogic Flying, which has produced a coherence-creating effect for Colombia and other nations.

In a preview of the film shown recently, Father Mejia describes how the children who arrive at his centres, who have experienced acute stress in their lives, are greatly helped by the loving atmosphere and especially by practice of Transcendental Meditation. 'When the children meditate, they open themselves to infinite possibilities and discover their essential nature—which is love,' Father Mejia says.

In the film, the children reflect on the value of Transcendental Meditation, which many of them say has turned their lives around, giving them increased optimism and confidence, as well as reducing stress and negative emotions. One youth resident says, 'I feel happy because I'm getting to know who I really am.'

Many Latin American countries wish to show the documentary in their cinemas, and the filmmakers hope it will eventually be shown throughout the world.
