The anniversary of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's historic 1974 campaign—'Nepal to lead the world'—was celebrated by the Global Mother Divine Organization* during its Full Moon celebration on 22 October.
For several years the organization has been conducting special celebrations on each full moon day. Via webcasts on the Global Mother Divine Channel, these celebrations have served to bring together the global community of women and girls who practise the Transcendental Meditation and Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme, including those who are involved in presenting and teaching Maharishi's programmes in their countries.
In November 1974, Maharishi travelled to Nepal, to introduce the Nepalese people to the simple, natural practice of his Transcendental Meditation Programme. During his stay Maharishi conducted many open-air meetings and instructed 25,000 people in the technique.
Recognizing the importance of modern technology in spreading this knowledge, Maharishi also brought with him equipment and technical experts—introducing the first television broadcast in the country—so that everyone could hear his lectures in different parts of Kathmandu.
During the 22 October celebration, Global Mother Divine Organization leaders also presented the organization's recent achievements in Nepal, and a video introduction to Nepal was played.
A video of one of Maharishi's historic addresses to the people of Nepal in November 1974 was also played. An ancient Himalayan nation, situated to the northeast of India, Nepal has a rich spiritual heritage, with a deep connection to the Vedic tradition of knowledge. Buddhism also has deep roots in Nepal, as it is said to be the birthplace of Lord Buddha. Buddhists and participants in the Vedic tradition live in deep respect for each other's traditions, and frequent festivals play a very large part in Nepali culture.
A leader of the Global Mother Divine Organization expressed their great joy and honour in bringing Maharishi's total Vedic knowledge to Nepal, to ensure that everyone will always enjoy enlightenment in their own life, 'and peace, prosperity, and progress—an invincible Nepal—for all generations to come'.
Global Good News will soon feature further articles about Nepal with highlights of Maharishi's address and the most recent achievements of the Global Mother Divine Organization in the country.
