The David Lynch Foundation will host its second annual 'Change Begins Within' event on 13 December 2010 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, to help fuel the initiative of bringing the Transcendental Meditation Programme to at-risk groups in the US.
A number of celebrity guests have signed up to attend, including Russell Brand, Clint Eastwood, Dr Mehmet Oz, Katy Perry, as well as Dr Lynch. 'Dr Oz will be instrumental to the event, since he is considered an authority on medical topics,' commented Dr Adam Pressman, National Director of Video Production for the Global Country of World Peace in the US.* Dr Oz will present on the importance of stress relief and enlivening of the whole brain and physiology, benefits that are both gained through Transcendental Meditation.
In addition to these well-known figures, about 700 influential guests are expected to attend the benefit celebration. All guests will receive a 'certificate' upon arrival, which will allow them to learn Transcendental Meditation themselves. 'We hope to reach out and inspire these top members of society—who are eager to help their fellow citizens—with the value of TM,' said Dr Pressman.
Since the foundation's April 2009 'Change Begins Within' benefit concert headlined by Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, also in New York, nearly 150,000 inner-city students have begun practising Transcendental Meditation in the US and other countries, contributing to higher academic achievement and lower violence and stress in schools.
The December event aims to build further support for low-income students to learn the technique, and for additional at-risk groups—Iraq and Afghanistan veterans with PTSD, prison inmates and security guards, homeless men, and Native Americans—to learn as well. 'More and more groups are demanding the technique, and we hope to deliver to as many of them as possible,' added Dr Pressman.
