On 10 May 2010 The Hawk Eye reported:
A new Centre offering the Transcendental Meditation Programme, to be established in Burlington, Iowa, USA, could be the first of many new Centres nationwide.
It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring
fulfilment to the field of world peace.
Three Teachers of Transcendental Meditation (TM), Olivia Lopez, Anne Dietrich, and Pushpagandhi Nayagar, who will be teaching in Burlington 'represent the Global Mother Divine Organization,* which emphasizes the unfolding of the full potential of women and girls,' the Hawk Eye reports.
Everyone can benefit from the Transcendental Meditation Technique, Ms Lopez explains. 'If you can think a thought, you can meditate. It's based on the natural tendency the mind has toward greater happiness,' she says in the article.
Scientific research demonstrates the wide-ranging benefits of Transcendental Meditation. The article cites several studies including 'a study in the International Journal of Psychophysiology in February about TM reducing stress in college students and improving their ability to learn'; and studies 'published in medical journals nationwide [that] have said TM can help lower blood pressure and improve risk factors for heart disease'.
The programme can even positively impact society as a whole. 'Over the course of an eight-week period in 1993, thousands of Washington, D.C., natives familiar with the art of Transcendental Meditation decreased the rate of violent crime by 23 percent with one simple act. They meditated,' the Hawk Eye reports.
Terry Arellano, who owns the Burlington Social Service Center, the location of the new Centre, began meditating last September. She says Transcendental Meditation has increased her already high level of confidence and 'improved my overall health and well being'.
'If TM takes off in Burlington, it could start a tidal wave of new centers across the country,' Ms Arellano tells the Hawk Eye.
Global Good News comment:
* The Global Mother Divine Organization, founded in December 2007, is the ladies' wing of the Global Country of World Peace.
