Twenty years ago Armenia became a 'one per cent' country—with more than one per cent of the population practising the Transcendental Meditation. As well-wishers celebrate 20 years of rising coherence, interest in programmes of the Global Country of World Peace continues to grow.

'Armenia was the first country in the former Soviet Union to really begin Transcendental Meditation 20 years ago,' said Raja Robert Wynne, Raja of Invincible Armenia for the Global Country of World Peace.*

National Director Dr Svetlana Galstyan was one of the first 50 people in the entire Soviet Union to learn the technique, he added.

Under her enlightened leadership, Armenia quickly rose to enjoy the coherence-creating effect of one per cent of the population practising the Transcendental Meditation Programme, and the square root of one per cent practising Yogic Flying.**

In November of last year, the Global Country celebrated the 20th anniversary of the introduction and widespread adoption of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's programmes in Armenia, Dr Galstyan said.

Practitioners and Teachers of Transcendental Meditation expressed their gratitude for these programmes, which have been creating an influence of harmony and coherence in the country since 1989—following a devastating earthquake.

'The nation was completely desperate and without any light to guide its destiny,' Dr Galstyan said. However, in a very short time, Armenia had not only one per cent of its people enjoying Transcendental Meditation, but also had 250 Yogic Flyers.

Armenia needs 180 Yogic Flyers to practise together in a group, in order to make the nation invincible, she explained.

Momentum toward national invincibility continues to grow through media coverage and rising interest from diverse sectors of society.

In the coming days Global Good News will feature the continuation of Dr Galstyan's talk, in which she discusses details of current expansion.

* Raja Wynne's and Dr Galstyan's report was featured on the 11 February 2010 Maharishi Global Family Chat, broadcast daily via Internet webcast on the Maharishi Channel, Channel 3. Podcasts of the daily Global Family Chat (audio track) are also now available for automatic download, via an RSS feed.

** In 1974, it was discovered that when the number of people in a city practising the Transcendental Meditation Programme reached one per cent of the population, the trend of rising crime rate was reversed, indicating increasing order and harmony in the life of the whole city. In 1978, research demonstrated a new formula: the square root of one per cent of a population practising the advanced Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme morning and evening, together in one place, is sufficient to neutralize negative tendencies and promote positive trends throughout the whole population.
