South Africa: Surge of interest in Transcendental Meditation after Johannesburg radio interview
by Global Good News staff writer

4 February 2010
The largest Maharishi Invincibility Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa, has had 150 enquiries from people interested in learning the Transcendental Meditation Programme, after a recent radio interview.
The 44-minute interview can be heard on the Centre's website: www.TMinJoburg.co.za
The directors of the Centre, Dr Richard and Dr Vicki Broome, have been teaching Transcendental Meditation to over 300 people every year. Since the radio interview they have received many invitations to speak at associations and groups.
Speaking on Maharishi Global Family Chat,* they also discussed typical reasons why people learn Transcendental Meditation: 70 per cent hear about the technique from friends and family; 15 per cent learn about it on the Internet; 10 per cent are referred by doctors and other health practitioners; and 5 per cent from radio and television.
In a departure from this usual pattern, however, 60 per cent of the people at the most recent Transcendental Meditation introductory lecture were inspired to attend by the recent radio interview. This is encouraging, said Dr Vicki Broome, since an estimated 93 per cent of those who attend introductory lectures at the Johannesburg Centre go on to learn Transcendental Meditation, either immediately or at a later time.
Vicki emphasized that, as TM Teachers, she and her husband feel a responsibility to 'be out there'—to let the public know where they are and what they offer in as many ways as possible. They also gave useful suggestions for fellow Teachers, based on their successes.
Among goals for the future, Dr Vicki and Dr Richard Broome are working on many approaches to improving their web presence.
* Dr Richard and Dr Vicki Broome's report was featured on the 2 February 2010 Maharishi Global Family Chat, broadcast daily via Internet webcast on the Maharishi Channel, Channel 3. Podcasts of the daily Global Family Chat (audio track) are also now available for automatic download, via an RSS feed.
