Dr David Lynch, award-winning film director and founder of the David Lynch Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education and World Peace; and Dr Robert Roth, Vice President of the Foundation and National Director of Expansion for the Global Country of World Peace in the United States, have been travelling around India for several weeks, retracing the steps of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi throughout the country and filming for a documentary about Maharishi's life and unprecedented global achievements.

Dr Lynch, Dr Roth, and a camera crew visited Northern India, including Uttarkashi and Jyotir Math, where Maharishi lived before he came out to bring Transcendental Meditation to the world.

More recently, they toured the southernmost area of India, including Rameshwaram and Kanyakumari. Maharishi went to these places when he first came from the Himalayas in the mid-1950s and travelled around India teaching Transcendental Meditation for the first time. In Rameshwaram the tour visited a particularly ancient and auspicious temple. In Trivandrum they visited the library where Maharishi gave his first-ever public lecture on Transcendental Meditation in 1955.

Dr Lynch did not just arrive in a place, set up a studio, and start filming; rather he filmed the adventure as it was unfolding for them—as happens in many of Dr Lynch's award-winning films, Dr Roth described in a report given on 15 December.*

They also visited the Brahmasthan (auspicious central area) of India, where a large campus has already been established and is being expanded to house 8,000 Maharishi Vedic Pandits, performing Yagyas (Vedic peace-creating performances) every day, as well as group practice of the Transcendental Meditation and Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme. This is the first phase for the creation of permanent invincibility and world peace from the Brahmasthan of India—the Global Capital of World Peace.

The master plan for the campus, developed under Maharishi's guidance, features further expansion—first for 16,000 and then 32,000 Vedic Pandits. Dr Lynch filmed at the Brahmasthan before completing his tour of Maharishi's India, the Land of the Veda.

* Dr Roth was recently awarded an honorary Doctorate of World Peace from Maharishi University of Management, and appointed a trustee of the university.

** Dr Peter Swan, Minister of Communication for the Global Country of World Peace, gave a report on Dr David Lynch's tour during the 15 December Maharishi Global Family Chat, which is broadcast daily via Internet webcast on the Maharishi Channel, Channel 3. Podcasts of the daily Global Family Chat (audio track) are also now available for automatic download, via an RSS feed.
