by Global Good News staff writer

7 July 2009
The annual global celebrations of Guru Purnima—celebrating the eternal Vedic Tradition of knowledge, continued on the afternoon of Monday, 6 July 2009, Day 3 of the Assembly in MERU, Holland, International Capital of the Global Country of World Peace.
The Assembly began Saturday 4 July, and continues through 9 July, including the grand global celebration of the full-moon day of Guru Purnima on Tuesday, 7 July. Similar assemblies around the world are connecting to the afternoon and evening sessions in MERU via Internet webcast over the Maharishi Channel, Channel 3.
Dr Bevan Morris, Prime Minister of the Global Country of World Peace, welcomed everyone to the afternoon session on 6 July. As with all days during the Guru Purnima celebration, the Assembly began with the playing of a historic videotape of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Founder of the Global Country of World Peace, in which he performed Puja in honour of his Master Guru Dev* and the eternal Vedic Tradition of Masters. The videotape of Maharishi's Puja played on this day was from the Guru Purnima celebration of 14 July 1992.
Following the Puja, the Assembly enjoyed two more videotapes of Maharishi. During the first, from Guru Purnima in 1988, Maharishi explained his Master Plan to Create Heaven on Earth. In the second, from Guru Purnima on 11 July 1976, Maharishi described the importance of the celebration—that it is a day of supreme awakening and a dispelling of the darkness of ignorance. (A future Global Good News article will feature a summary of highlights from Maharishi's addresses.)
Dr Morris concluded the afternoon session of Monday, 6 July by reminding everyone of the celebration of Guru Purnima Day, beginning Tuesday morning 7 July. (*Please see separate Global Good News article about the live Internet broadcast schedule on Guru Purnima Day.)
* Maharishi's Master, Shri Guru Dev, His Divinity Brahmanand Saraswati, Jagatguru Shankaracharya of Jyotir Math, Himalayas. Puja is a Vedic ceremony of gratitude.
