Leaders of the Global Country of World Peace from many countries have gathered in MERU, Holland, for the annual global celebrations of Guru Purnima—celebrating the eternal Vedic Tradition of knowledge.
The Assembly began Saturday 4 July, and continues through 9 July, including the grand global celebration of Guru Purnima Day on the full moon on Tuesday 7 July. Similar assemblies around the world are connecting to the afternoon and evening sessions in MERU via Internet webcast over the Maharishi Channel, Channel 3.

Dr Bevan Morris, Prime Minister of the Global Country of World Peace, welcomed everyone to the first evening session of the annual Assembly on 4 July 2009. 'Our assembly for Guru Purnima is going to be a global wave of bliss,' he said.
As in other major assemblies of the Global Country in the past year, Dr Morris explained, each day's Assembly programme includes beautiful videotapes from previous years' Guru Purnima celebrations with His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Founder of the Global Country of World Peace. The Assembly is enjoying each day one or more of Maharishi's historic addresses, beginning with Puja in honour of his Master Guru Dev* and the eternal Vedic Tradition of Masters.
'We will spend the time with Maharishi,' Dr Morris said, reflecting on Guru Dev, Brahmanand Saraswati. 'This is the highlight in the whole Vedic Calendar, year after year, and we have revelled in watching Maharishi offering ''his everything'' at the lotus feet of Guru Dev . . . and in his words, inspiring the world in a new direction, year after year.
'We saw this last year, when we went through many Guru Purnima celebrations, and we realized how Maharishi was constructing the world to be Heaven on Earth, through initiatives and inspirations that flooded into him from Guru Dev on Guru Purnima Day, year after year after year.'
On the first evening, 4 July, the Assembly enjoyed viewing Maharishi's global address on Guru Purnima, 7 July 1990.
Dr Morris expressed his joy that the Assembly is taking place in the presence of Maharaja Adhiraj Rajaraam, First Ruler of the Global Country of World Peace; and of all the Rajas, Raj Rajeshwaris, Global Ministers, and National Directors of the Global Country from around the world—many of whom will present news and achievements of Maharishi's programmes from their domains.
Dr Morris also expressed his thanks to all who have organized the Assembly; to all who have come from Europe and around the world 'to join the enlightened community here at the International Capital of the Global Country of World Peace in MERU, Holland, the seat of Maharaja Adhiraj Rajaraam'—and to everyone around the world who is connecting to the Assembly via the Internet on the Maharishi Channel, preparing to hold their own Guru Purnima celebrations on 7 July.
'We're so happy to all have the chance to be together,' Dr Morris concluded, commenting on the 'huge power' of the gathering of all the enlightened leaders and members of Maharishi's organizations throughout the world. 'Already one can feel the intense bliss present in this Assembly, which will only swell on Guru Purnima Day.'
Dr Morris commented that the beginning day of the Assembly coincided this year with the July 4th Independence Day celebrations in the United States (another Global Good News article features Dr Morris's comments).
