Today, 23 August, the Vedic festival of Krishna Janmashtami is being celebrated worldwide by the Global Country of World Peace. Broadcasting via satellite and over the Internet from the Global Capital of Raam Raj in the Brahma-Sthan [geographical centre] of India and from MERU, Holland, the Maharishi Channel is presenting the celebration for viewers around the world.

Festivities began with the Rashtra Gita, the anthem of the Global Country of World Peace, followed by a brief introduction by Dr Bevan Morris, Prime Minister of the Global Country of World Peace. Dr Morris spoke of the significance of this special day honouring the birth of Lord Krishna:

'Lord Krishna is Brahm [Totality] itself. Lord Krishna gave the quintessence of the total Veda in two hours to Arjuna, to teach Arjuna to go from diversity to Unity, to pure transcendental self-referral consciousness, and thereby bring him in one two-hour discourse, to the state of enlightenment

Dr Morris explained that Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Founder of the Global Country of World Peace, translated and commented on this discourse in the Bhagavad Gita* 'to guide the present age from Kali Yuga [age of ignorance and suffering] to Sat Yuga [Age of Enlightenment, Heaven on Earth]'.

In a beautiful address last year during the global celebration of Krishna Janmashtami on 4 September 2007, Maharishi explained the profound meaning of this celebration:

'Today on the birthday of Shri Krishna—the birthday of Total Knowledge incarnate—birthday, we would say, of the eternal administrator of life on earth, we have the opportunity to offer ourselves to those rising waves of bliss which come to us as the light of dawn of a new administrator of the world, Shri Krishna, Total Knowledge incarnate, total silence incarnate, total dynamism potential incarnate, total Kriya Shakti, Gyan Shakti, Samanvayat, Punah Brahm.

'The totality of knowledge in silence, self-referral totality of knowledge in potential of dynamism—capability, creativity, infinite creativity—that administers all life on earth. Today is the day, most fortunate day of all the days of the year.'

In today's celebration, Dr Morris invited everyone to join in a global performance of Puja [Vedic ceremony of gratitude] to Guru Dev.** Following the Puja, Raja Harris Kaplan, Raja of India, asked the Vedic Pandits in India to join with those gathered in MERU, Holland, to begin the traditional Vedic performance in honour of this special day.

(Dr Morris had explained that today was the first occasion on which the Vedic Pandits in MERU, who arrived from India in July, and have been performing Rudrabhishek [special peace-creating Vedic performance] every day, would be performing a special global Puja together with the Vedic Pandits in India.)

Towards the end of the broadcast, Maharaja Adhiraj Raja Raam, First Ruler of the Global Country of World Peace, addressed the celebration. Global Good News will feature Maharaja's comments in an article in the coming days, as well as the concluding remarks of Dr Morris thanking the Vedic Pandits in MERU and India for their beautiful performance.
