The Global Country of World Peace will hold its annual global celebration of the full-moon day of Guru Purnima on Friday, 18 July 2008. This very special day-long celebration will be featured in a live worldwide broadcast via satellite and over the Internet on the Maharishi Channel, Channel 3.

The live broadcast begins at 4:30 a.m. US Central Time; 11:30 a.m. Central Europe Time.

The celebration Friday is the highlight of the 11-day Guru Purnima Celebration now in progress in MERU, the Netherlands, and at the Invincible America Assembly in Fairfield and Maharishi Vedic City, Iowa, USA.

Guru Purnima is the day in the Vedic Calendar that is dedicated to honouring the Masters of the eternal Vedic Tradition of knowledge, who throughout time have upheld the supreme wisdom of life. In this generation this wisdom has been brought to the world through the knowledge and programmes of the Vedic Science of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, through the blessings of his Master, Shri Guru Dev*, to bring enlightenment to every individual and invincibility to every nation.

On Thursday 17 July, Dr Bevan Morris, Prime Minister of the Global Country of World Peace, announced the programme for Friday's celebration, which will begin with global Puja (Vedic ceremony of gratitude), followed by a videotape of Maharishi's Guru Purnima address from last year, 29 July 2007.

Other highlights of the celebration will include traditional Vedic recitation by the Vedic Pandits in the Brahma-sthan (auspicious central area) of India, and an address by Maharaja Adhiraj Raja Raam, first ruler of the Global Country of World Peace. The evening celebration in MERU will include a beautiful concert of Maharishi Gandharva Veda music by Debu Chaudhuri, one of the world's leading sitar musicians, and a procession of royal bagpipers.

The continuing daily Guru Purnima celebrations will proceed until 25 July; the morning and afternoon sessions are also being broadcast live on the Maharishi Channel. The afternoon session coincides with the Maharishi Global Family Chat.

Please visit the Maharishi channel home page mou.org for schedule updates and replay times, both for Friday's grand celebration of Guru Purnima, and for the continuing broadcasts in the following days.
