In his address to the Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment graduating class of 2008 on 8 June, Dr Bevan Morris, Prime Minister of the Global Country of World Peace*, presented excerpts from Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's book Maharishi's Master Plan to Create Heaven on Earth which discusses Heaven on Earth as found in traditions throughout the world.

Dr Morris said, 'Maharishi defined in his book Maharishi's Master Plan to Create Heaven on Earth ''. . . Heaven on Earth for the individual will be characterized by perfect health, long life in bliss, and the ability to fulfill one's desires. Heaven on Earth will be characterized by indomitable positivity, harmony, and peace on all levels of collective life—family, community, nation, and the world. Heaven on Earth will also be characterized by perfection in all areas of the life of society.''
'Then Maharishi quotes from Li chi, one of the great records of the enlightened sages of China. It says in Li chi, ''In antiquity, heaven and earth acted according to their several natures and the four seasons were what they ought to be. The people were virtuous . . . . There were no fevers or other diseases. This is what we called the period of great order.''
'And then from the life of Lord Buddha, Buddha Charita, there is a description of the moment when Lord Buddha . . . attained enlightenment. ''The sky shone bright with the sidhas who appeared in crowds in all directions and the mighty drums of thunder resounded through the air. Pleasant breezes blew softly; rain fell from a cloudless sky; flowers and fruits dropped from the trees out of season, in an effort as it were to show reverence for him. At that moment no one anywhere was angry, ill, or sad. No one did evil. No one was proud. The world became quite quiet as though it had reached full perfection. Everywhere the virtuous were strengthened. . . . All living things rejoiced and sensed that things were well.'''
In the Bible, the Book of Isaiah describes the golden age. 'It says' Dr Morris continued, '''They shall not labour in vain or bear children for calamity, for they shall be the offspring of the blessed of the Lord, and their children with them. Before they call, I will answer. While they are yet speaking, I will hear. The wolf and the lamb shall feed together. The lion shall eat straw like the ox, and dust shall be the serpent's food. They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain,'' says the Lord.'
Maharishi then defined Heaven on Earth in terms of peace in the world, Dr Morris said. 'Maharishi says, ''With Heaven on Earth, every nation will spontaneously radiate a nourishing influence to the neighbouring nations, and the whole family of nations will naturally enjoy harmony and real freedom. Self-sufficiency in every nation will eliminate dissatisfaction and this will efface the need for defense. With Heaven on Earth, positivity will outshine negativity. Destructive motives and means of defense will be replaced by the naturally tender nourishing motives and means of promoting perfection in life.'' And to this expression of his Maharishi related again from the Book of Isaiah: ''They shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation shall not lift up sword against nation. Neither shall they learn war anymore.''
'Maharishi also commented about Heaven on Earth that it will be characterized by life in accord with the Will of God, life in accord with Natural Law. And from the Book of Jeremiah, an expression Maharishi loved so much—God says: ''I will put my law within them, and I will write it upon their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.''
'Another expression of Maharishi about Heaven on Earth . . . [is that] life will be so pure, the environment will be so clean, fresh, and unpolluted, and human brain physiology will function in such an uncomplicated way that no one will lose balance, no one will make a mistake. All thought, speech, and action of everyone will be spontaneously according to Natural Law. Everyone will enjoy perfection in all fields of life. This will be the feature of all education with the rise of Heaven on Earth.
'And to this Maharishi related an expression from the great sage of China, Chuang Tzu, who wrote: ''In the age of perfect virtue, they attached no value to wisdom, nor employed men of ability. Superiors were but as the higher branches of a tree and the people were like the deer of the wild. They were upright and correct without knowing that to be so was righteousness. They loved one another without knowing that to do so was benevolence. They were honest and loyal hearted without knowing that it was loyalty. They fulfilled their engagements without knowing that to do so was good faith. In their simple movements, they employed the services of one another without thinking that they were conferring or receiving any gift. Therefore their actions left no trace and there was no record of their affairs.'' So this is a description of some ancient time of the Sat Yuga,' Dr Morris said.
Global Good News will feature the continuation of Dr Morris' talk in Part III of this series.
