Recently returned from India, and speaking during Maharishi's Global Family Chat yesterday, Dr Bevan Morris, Prime Minister of the Global Country of World Peace, reviewed the events in India, and the current plans for the activities of the Global Country.

In Part I of this article, Dr Morris described the great feast and honouring of Vedic Pandits that took place on the sixteenth day of the Vedic ceremonies to honour Maharishi.

Continuing his talk on the Global Family Chat, Dr Morris said it was not possible to finish the celebration in one day so it continued on for another. On the first day they were in one of the many tents, so they were at a distance. But on the second day, the Shankarcharya came to where they were, and sat there for a celebration that lasted four and a half hours. This was to honour the Vedic Pandits, the Vedic scholars of that area.

There must have been 400 or more of them who came, Dr Morris said, and they gave speeches in Hindi, which Dr Morris and everyone were not able to follow, but Maharishi's name was mentioned and praised again and again by the elderly Vedic scholars of the area.

Then the Shankaracharya of Jyotir Math, Swami Vasudevananda Saraswati Maharaj, spoke. His speech profoundly honoured Maharishi, just as he had been doing to the press again and again: That 'in the whole world there was never anyone greater as a master, as a sage of the Vedic Tradition than His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.' The Shankaracharya described Maharishi as Jagadguru, the Guru [spiritual teacher] of the whole world.

The Shankaracharya said he remembered Maharishi as the Brahmachari [student] of Guru Dev*, Brahmananda Saraswati, who is the present Shankaracharya's Param Guru, his Guru's Guru. So Maharishi he remembered as the supreme Brahmachari around Guru Dev along with three other very famous Gurubai or brothers of Maharishi with Guru Dev: others like Brahmachari Shankalal who Maharishi was close to and looked after throughout their lives.

The Shankaracharya explained that this young man who was Brahmachari Mahesh came out to be this great, great saint of the world—His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the Jagad Guru—the Guru of the world. He explained to the Vedic scholars there, how Maharishi had set the perfect example of Vedic living to all the Vedic scholars of India, and he was really remonstrating with them to live on that level of Vedic Totality and purity of Vedic life that Maharishi had exemplified.

'So there was a very loving feeling,' said Dr Morris. 'Maharishi was highly praised by Swami Vasudevananda Saraswati Maharaj, who is really so devoted to Maharishi in every way. Maharishi was so close to him. Maharishi looked after the Shankaracharya so much and was organizing, for example, to rebuild the Guru Dev ashram in Allahabad, where the Shankaracharya primarily resides, and where Maharishi primarily spent his life with Guru Dev, and therefore where Maharishi [gained] his own enlightenment.

Dr Eike Hartmann, Minister of Architecture of the Global Country of World Peace, has made a comprehensive design for the Ashram to be rebuilt according to Vedic Architecture, working with the Shankaracharya in great detail about all he desires for the new building.

Dr Morris said that Dr Roget Odet, Surveyor General of the Global Country, was also there together with the Shankarcharya last year for many weeks making a beautiful Vastu design to sit in that site where the Guru Dev Ashram has been all these past nearly seventy years—that place where Maharishi was with Guru Dev.

Maharishi offered the Shankaracharya everything: offering him the achievements of his own movement to glorify the tradition of the Shankaracharya, which is Guru Dev's Tradition. 'So there's a beautiful relationship,' said Dr Morris.

'The Shankaracharya was so much involved in all that happened there [at Allahabad]. And the reality is that . . . the Shankaracharya very kindly took responsibility to make sure that everything was done according to the precise Vedic Traditions. Consulting with the Vedic Pandits and with our leaders of our movement in India, he worked it out, he managed it all. He was doing everything that was required. So it was his great kindness to do this.'

On 11 January Maharishi spoke to the Shankaracharya and asked him to be the Patron of the
Brahmananda Saraswati Trust—Patron meaning just a quiet force of blessing for this organisation set up by Maharishi on the 11th of January in order that there be a fund to perpetually support Vedic Pandits, and to maintain therefore administration through silence, through group Yogic Flying and the performance of Rudrabhishek, performance of Graha Shanti, and invocation of the Devatas for all nations of the world**.

*Guru Dev: Maharishi's Master, His Divinity Brahmananda Saraswati, Jagatguru Shankaracharya of Jyotir Math, Himalayas.

** Special Vedic performances, Yagyas, to enliven Total Natural Law for the 192 countries in the world.

Global Good News will feature Part III of this talk on 29 February.
