Recently returned from India, and speaking during Maharishi's Global Family Chat yesterday, Dr Bevan Morris, Prime Minister of the Global Country of World Peace, reviewed the events in India, and the current plans for the activities of the Global Country.

Dr Morris reminded everyone that the Vedic Farewell ceremonies for Maharishi lasted 16 days. Normally the Vedic ritual is 13 days, 'but in the case of a great, great saint like Maharishi, it was determined to be 16.' On the final day of the 16, there was a ceremony in which all of the great Dandi Swamis, the Sanyasis of Guru Dev's tradition, from all around Prayag, were honoured.

This ceremony was held under the supervision of the Shankaracharya Maharaj, Shankaracharya of Jyotir Math, where Guru Dev was also Shankaracharya. On that day, thousands of people were honoured and fed at the Maharishi Ashram in Prayag near the junction point or Sangam of the three holy rivers, Ganga, Jamuna, and mythical [transcendental] Saraswati.

'It is a Vedic tradition, at the end of these 16 days, that all the great spiritual leaders of the area should be honoured and fed,' Dr Morris explained.

All these saints of the Brahmin caste were given Dakshina, special gifts and garlands, and were honoured with Vedic chanting throughout the day. 'Hour upon hour upon hour they were being honoured,' said Dr Morris, 'and then they were all given a very great feast that was held there as the culmination of all those days.'

Everyone else attending the ceremonies also took part in the great feast; special dining halls had been set up for the Rajas, for Purusha, and for ladies of the Global Mother Divine Organization. There was a special area for everyone.

Dr Morris said that everyone was most beautifully served a delicious feast of many courses, by Brahmins clad in white with sandal paste on their forehead. It was all served with great care and such abundance that they could not possibly eat all the food that was brought and served to everyone from silver buckets, Dr Morris said.

The hosts of the event, Dr Girish Chandra Varma*, Dr Anand Shrivastava** and Prakash Shrivastava, another leader of Maharishi's Movement in India, moved about amongst everyone, going from dining hall to dining hall to see that everyone was enjoying and feeling very delighted, happy, and fulfilled with the feast that was being given. 'So this was the delightful way the event unfolded,' said Dr Morris.

Special guests also came including the leaders of some of the most powerful organizations for upholding the Vedic traditions, who had also been so inspired by Maharishi's example to them. The Mayor of Allahabad was there, so proud that Maharishi had stayed in his house; he came with a very elderly, senior leader of Maharishi's family there.

During the time of this feast, Dr John Hagelin, Raja of Invincible America, and Minister of Science and Technology of the Global Country of World Peace; Dr Harris Kaplan, Raja of India; Dr Jose Luis Alvarez, Raja of Latin America; Dr Peter Warburton, Raja of England; Dr Keith Wallace and others gave a special presentation to the leadership of the University of Allahabad, which Maharishi attended as a young man. There was a great warm reception from this University for the introduction of Maharishi's Consciousness-Based Education for all the students of the University.

'So we were very delighted to be able to participate in ... this sanctified Vedic ritual of the transition time of Maharishi into the Supreme Reality of his status in the whole creation,' Dr Morris said. 'Now [comes] the fresh beginning: no sadness, all bliss, all expansion, all moving ahead in the joyous memory of all that Maharishi had taught us, given us to do, and given us to organize for the perpetual administration in the field of eternal silence for the human race as a whole, and for Heaven to be lived on earth.'
