Honouring 50 years of achievements of His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Dr Robert Keith Wallace, first scientist of the Age of Enlightenment, spoke about Maharishi's remarkable contribution to the field of health, the knowledge of enlightenment, and of human physiology.
Dr Wallace said that it was a great joy to speak at this very precious moment in the history of the world, and that it has been a pleasure working with the team developing Maharishi Vedic Medicine and the new Hospital and Colleges of Perfect Health.
Dr Wallace said that it has also been very precious to see how much attention Maharishi gave to this project; Maharishi was very concerned with health. 'In Maharishi's great compassion, you could always hear in his encouragement that the most important thing was that we take care of everyone: that we offer this incredible wisdom and knowledge for everyone, and absolutely ensure that no one suffers,' said Dr Wallace.
'This was in every little detail that Maharishi gave in his instructions: every part of this hospital, every part of the college, all of it involved this incredible love Maharishi had for everyone—his compassion for the world and his desire to see suffering removed.'
Dr Wallace explained that this college will be training doctors, supporting and expanding research, and also providing an ideal health setting for all those that need it.
'Simply in the area of health and physiology, what Maharishi did was extraordinary,' said Dr Wallace. 'The understanding of enlightenment, of meditation, had such a limited status, and Maharishi did so much to expand it—to make it so accessible to everyone in the world. . . Maharishi just took something so abstract, so completely removed from our normal life, and make it so practical and powerful.'
Dr Wallace said that Maharishi introduced the whole concept of the 'neurophysiology of enlightenment': that spiritual progression was in fact a progression of the physiology, an unfoldment of our brain itself. He took something that had been so removed from the world of science, and put it right at the forefront of science, showing that in fact it was the key to not only ideal health in each individual, but also for creating peace in the world—all within our physiology.
'Not only did Maharishi take this world of spirituality and make it scientific, but he also took the world of concrete matter and made it spiritual,' said Dr Wallace. 'This was with his guidance of His Majesty Maharaja Adhiraj Raja Raam—the incredible discovery that Raja Raam made that the physiology is made of consciousness: again beautifully guided by Maharishi, but with Raja Raam's own great brilliance in this discovery.'
This combination brought out an understanding that what we think of as just organs, cells, or molecules connected together is something much more than that. 'Our physiology is something that is sacred; our health is something that is sacred. Our physiology is made of consciousness itself,' Dr Wallace said.
This understanding is so profound because it means that when we see somebody walking towards us, when we deal with someone in terms of health, it's not that we're replacing organs: it's not that we're just dealing with this disease or changing this blood chemistry. It's more that we realize that the physiology is sacred; this is a place where all the Laws of Nature are.
'And there's no greater example of that than Maharishi,' said Dr Wallace. 'When Maharishi walked into the room, you felt that presence. A physiology was not confined to that body, but it was everywhere. It permeated. And that was a living experience of this knowledge: that we must from now on treat each other, treat our physiologies in this very ideal way, where we recognize that each person is the universe, is the Laws of Nature.
'In his beautiful example that he set for us, Maharishi demonstrated how powerful this physiology is—what we can all accomplish. And for that we're so grateful to Maharishi. No amount of thanks could be possibly given for this beautiful knowledge, this beautiful experience. I can only say, ''Thank you very much, Maharishi.'' Jai Guru Dev.'
