On 16 November 2007 The Sofia Echo reported: Award-winning filmmaker David Lynch recently visited Bulgaria to inaugurate an educational institution* dedicated to creating national invincibility. It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring fulfilment to the fields of world peace and education.

The article reported that Mr Lynch 'landed in Bulgaria on November 9. He arrived in good company, including: Donovan Leitch, the legendary Scottish singer, poet, guitarist and composer of the 1960s; Dr Bevan Morris**, president of Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa [USA]; Dr John Hagelin***, a world-renowned quantum physicist; and Dr Alarik Arenander, director of the Brain Research Institute in Iowa. They were here for the groundbreaking ceremony for . . . an educational institution*.'

The article included a quote explaining that in addition to teaching traditional academic subjects, the school will 'address individual and societal stress and develop the full intellectual and creative potential of students'.

Mr Lynch, whom the article called 'one of Hollywood's greatest' brought with him the message of 'absolute happiness through Transcendental Meditation'.

Although skeptical at first about the benefits of meditation, the article reported that there came a time in his life when Mr Lynch realized that despite his great success, fame, and wealth, he wasn't really deeply happy.

'That's when the adage ''Happiness lies within'' first rang true,' the article reported. He learned Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation Technique in 1973, and he 'claims not have a missed a day of meditation since', the article stated.

The article reported that Mr Lynch is the author of the 'book ''Catching the Big Fish: Meditation, Consciousness, and Creativity'' (Tarcher/Penguin), [which] was released this past winter and a few months later its Bulgarian translation hit the local market'. He also established the David Lynch Foundation**** two years ago.
