In advance of his visit to Belfast this month as part of the Queen's Festival, Dr David Lynch, internationally acclaimed film-maker and Founder of the David Lynch Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education and World Peace, was recently interviewed by Joanna Braniff, Features Editor of The Irish News, in an article called 'Confessions of a Peaceful Mind'. She noted that he has Irish roots, and hopes his message can create a positive effect for the whole country and the opportunity for children and students to achieve their full potential—enlightenment.
The article showcased Dr Lynch's belief that Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's Transcendental Meditation (TM) Technique can improve the world, especially in countries like Ireland, with its past conflicts. It pointed out that his book, 'Catching the Big Fish', documents his personal experiences of using this technique in his personal and private life since the 1970s.
The Features Editor reported that Dr Lynch works with the Stress-Free Schools organization and has created his own educational foundation to introduce TM and its benefits into schools for the next generation. He pointed out that increasing numbers of schools want to begin Consciousness-Based Education and that great, positive changes have taken place in those that have done so.
Ms Braniff quoted Dr Lynch's description of how we look for happiness from outside ourselves, then experience it within ourselves. 'It is a natural process, because each deeper level of mind and intellect has more happiness, so you just dive within. . . . When you get to the deepest level . . . you transcend, and you experience unbounded happiness, intelligence and creativity. When you experience this deepest level of life, you enliven it, and it starts to grow, so what you are doing is really, truly, growing more consciousness, awareness, understanding, intelligence, creativity, and power. It starts expanding, day by day, and then you notice that negative things, like sorrow, anger, depression, tension, stress and hate start to recede.'
