On 8 June 2024 Space.com reported: On May 3, 2024 Jane Rigby, senior project scientist for the James Webb Space Telescope, was given the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the United States' highest civilian honor. ''The Presidential Medal of Freedom,'' according to the White House website, ''is the Nation's highest civilian honor, presented to individuals who have made exemplary contributions to the prosperity, values, or security of the United States, world peace, or other significant societal, public or private endeavors.''
