New Milky Way map reveals a wave of stars in our galaxy's outer reaches

On 25 April 2021 CNN reported:
A new map reveals the outskirts of the Milky Way galaxy, including a wave of stars disturbed by a small galaxy on a collision course with our own. Data collected from the European Space Agency's Gaia mission and NASA's Near Earth Object Wide Field Infrared Survey Explorer has been used by astronomers to map the galactic halo and this group of stars. Their findings appear in a study published Wednesday [21 April] in the journal Nature.
