MUM Inaugurates Massive Solar Array - MEG'Array lights up campus
by Matt Milner

28 January 2019
On 28 January 2019 the Ottumwa Courier (Iowa) reported: One of the most advanced solar power arrays in the world is now active in Fairfield [Iowa, USA]. On December 14, 2018, Maharishi University of Management inaugurated a 1.1 million watt state-of-the-art solar power plant. The ''MEG'Array Solar Power Plant'' will provide about a third of all the electricity needed for the MUM campus. [The amount] could be more as technology and expansion take place in years to come. Dr. John Hagelin, MUM's president, said the solar array moves the school considerably closer to a commitment it made two years ago to . . . achieve carbon-neutral status within 10 years. It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programs Maharishi has designed to bring fulfillment to the fields of energy and technology.
This array differs from traditional solar power panels in a couple of ways. The first is the active tracking system. Instead of panels on static mounts, this system will allow the panels to track the sun to get the best angle they can on it. That boosts power production. An artificial intelligence system will run the array, Hagelin said, learning as it goes. Troy Van Beek of Ideal Energy [based in Fairfield] said the company has worked with both MUM and Iowa State University to develop the technology and examine how it can be expanded for use in other locations.

Global Good News comment:
Civic and government leaders at the local, state, and federal levels attended the inauguration of the new MEG'Array Solar Power Plant at MUM last month, including Fairfield Mayor Ed Malloy and Congressman Dave Loebsack, who represents Iowa's 2nd District in the U.S. House of Representatives.
The story was reported in many news media. In an interview with TV station KYOU (NBC and Fox networks), Congressman Loebsack said, ''They're training folks here [at Maharishi University of Management] not only when it comes to renewable energies, but in entrepreneurialism as well. People are going to be able to take this information, this education that they get here, and apply it practically speaking, in the larger world when they're finished here at MUM.''
