12 December 2013
Dr Fred Travis, Director of the Center for Brain, Consciousness, and Cognition at Maharishi University of Management in the USA, was a recent guest on the Internet radio programme, What Women Must Know, hosted by Sherrill Sellman on the Progressive Radio Network.
The 55-minute show was titled 'Your Brain, Rejuvenation and Meditation with Dr Fred Travis' and featured a wide-ranging interview in which Ms Sellman and brain research expert Dr Travis discussed different stages of the brain's development and how it is affected by PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) and ADHD (attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder).
Dr Travis also described EEG brainwave patterns characteristic of three different forms of meditation, including high alpha EEG coherence in the frontal region of the brain during Transcendental Meditation, which is in the category known as 'automatic self-transcending'.
Dr Travis is also Professor and Chair of the Department of Maharishi Vedic Science, and Dean of the Graduate School at MUM. In addition to numerous scientific papers he is author of the book, Your Brain is a River, Not a Rock.
