A large university in Germany is interested in doing health-related research involving the Transcendental Meditation Technique.
While there has been extensive scientific research on the Transcendental Meditation Programme, conducted at hundreds of universities and research institutes around the world, this is the first German scientific research initiated by the head of a university, said an administrator of the programme in Germany.
The head of the university decided he wanted to utilize Transcendental Meditation for the study, and the Dean of the medical college will lead the research.
The school received sophisticated machines and equipment to measure the flexibility and the stiffness of arteries. Comparisons will be made between those who practise the Transcendental Meditation Programme and those who do not.
Of the 150 people to take part in the study, some will be randomly selected to practise Transcendental Meditation. The first group of 50 people who are to practise Transcendental Meditation will be learning soon, the administrator said.
Previous studies on the Transcendental Meditation Programme and heart health have shown benefits for people with high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, and congestive heart failure.
