The Power of Inner Silence for the Highly Sensitive
by Elaine Aron, Ph.D.

14 August 2018
On 14 August 2018 Psychology Today reported: Last year I was asked by a Korean publisher to write what I would say if I were giving my ''last lecture.'' . . . For me the subject was easy—inner silence. . . .
Everyone, HSP [Highly Sensitive Person*] or not, can improve their actions, and their chances of survival, if they just take the time to settle down and think.
[Describing various methods of ''turning inward to find that deeper quiet,'' Dr. Aron writes:] And there is meditation, the route I have used for 46 years. I chose Transcendental Meditation, partly because its goal is the deepest possible rest and inner silence. It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programs Maharishi has designed to bring fulfillment to the field of health.
In every time and tradition, people have entered inner silence for the purpose of helping the world as well as themselves. . . . Whatever the tradition, those committed to these deeper levels of inner silence and calm report at its deepest the same satisfying state . . . perhaps best called ''pure consciousness'' because it can be without thoughts, feelings, or perceptions. Yet you are wide awake inside.

Global Good News comment: * Dr. Aron's recent article in Psychology Today was directed primarily to a particular readership of ''Highly Sensitive Persons'' (HSPs)—a field in which she is a noted expert who first identified and studied this trait. Her comments about Transcendental Meditation as a means of integrating inner silence into daily life were made in that context. However, her insights about TM are valuable not only for HSPs, but for anyone seeking to directly experience pure consciousness on a regular basis, and to enjoy its benefits effortlessly expanding into daily activity and the environment.
