27 July 2013
At the fifth annual World Ayurveda Congress in Bhopal, India, Mr Lothar Pirc was invited to give a special presentation.
Mr Pirc based his presentation on a paper that appeared in the peer-reviewed scientific journal, Light on Ayurveda,* published by the Center for Indic Studies of the University of Massachusetts, USA. The eight-page paper, written by Dr Karen Pirc, MD, PhD, Jeremy Fields, PhD, and himself, as well as Mr Pirc's speech, summarized the scientific research on Maharishi Ayurveda health care and Transcendental Meditation.
Mr Pirc is founder and managing director, Maharishi Ayurveda Health Centre Bad Ems, and General Secretary of EURAMA (European Ayurveda Medical Association). The Bad Ems Health Centre is located in the ancient spa town of Bad Ems in Germany, and in German law it has the status of a private clinic. Mr Pirc founded it together with his wife, Dr Karin Pirc, in 1993, 20 years ago. Today, it is one of the preeminent Ayurveda health centres in the world.
Said Mr Pirc about the congress, 'Many leaders from the Ayurveda community around the world came to this conference and I had the great honour to be selected—there were about 1,000 applicants—to give an oral presentation.'
His presentation took its title from the paper published in the Light on Ayurveda journal—'Enlightenment: The Goal of Yoga and Ayurveda - From Philosophy to Science'.
Mr Pirc began his presentation by explaining the link between Ayurveda and Yoga. The ultimate goal of both is enlightenment, Mr Pirc said. Enlightenment has been considered unattainable or impractical to pursue, but scientific research now suggests enlightenment is a practical and realizable goal.
Other connections between the two disciplines are that Yoga and Ayurveda originate in the ancient Vedic tradition of knowledge, both offer effective methods to help unfold the full potential of mind and body, and both contain knowledge of a unified reality fundamental to mind and matter.
Global Good News will report more about Mr Pirc's presentation to the World Ayurveda Congress.
