A new video documents an event hosted by Operation Warrior Wellness and the David Lynch Foundation at the New York Athletic Club earlier this year, to raise awareness of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in the military. According to many experts and corroborating studies, Transcendental Meditation (TM) is an effective and low-cost PTSD treatment.
The video features compelling talks by speakers at the event, including several military veterans, their family members, and researchers and educators involved in testing Transcendental Meditation's effectiveness.
'I do not want to see other families go through what my family went through,' said Rita Cosby, an Emmy Award winning television host and daughter of a WWII prisoner of war.
'[TM] works. It is tremendously successful; it is easy. At a time when everybody is worried about budgets and so forth, this is something that we can all do in our own room at our own convenience, in a dorm at the college, wherever it is; and it is one of the simplest, easiest things to do. It is affordable and it's realistic and we have seen the results.'
An article in Bloomberg Businessweek reported on the military's history with treating PTSD with Transcendental Meditation.
It states, 'The military's first foray into meditation goes back to 1985, when it found in a small pilot study that Transcendental Meditation . . . significantly decreased the stress and anxiety levels of Vietnam veterans. Within three months, 70 percent of the meditating vets no longer needed the support services of their veterans' center.'
This early result has been echoed time and again in veterans young and old, from different military conflicts.
Said Jerry Yellin, a WWII veteran and National Co-Chair of Operation Warrior Wellness, 'I had nightmares and a hard time living for 30 years. I had an addiction that ruled my life. In August of 1975, 38 years ago, I learned Transcendental Meditation and got my life back, 100 percent.'
