According to the American Pain Foundation, an estimated 50 million Americans suffer from persistent pain each year. Second only to the common cold as a cause for sick leave, it is said to be the most expensive health problem today, with costs estimated at higher than $100 billion. A hallmark of many chronic conditions, pain affects more Americans than diabetes, heart disease, and cancer combined.
While pain killers might offer relief, many have been taken off the market due to harmful side effects. Worse, pain medications don't fix the problem that caused the pain in the first place. In fact, research shows that at least half of those who suffer from chronic pain do not find relief with medication.
No wonder Americans are turning in droves to alternative therapies to deal with chronic pain. Some have found relief with a treatment known as Maharishi Vedic Vibration TechnologySM (MVVT), a non-medical approach for enlivening the body's inner intelligence to heal chronic pain and underlying chronic disorders.
A surf-industry graphic designer suffered a whiplash injury when another driver didn't notice a stop sign and rammed his car from the rear. 'It caused severe headaches, and restricted neck rotation over the next 9 years, and even though I went through physical therapy and used extensive Yoga practice to help heal it, nothing really helped,' he says.
The headaches and neck pain continued until he signed on for three MVVT treatments (for headache, whiplash, and a frozen shoulder resulting from surfing in cold-water wetsuits over a period of years).
'During the treatment, the pain in my shoulder evaporated,' he said. 'Within three weeks, my posture had changed, and I noticed a tremendous fluidity and youthfulness in my upper body.'
Soon the headaches and neck pain disappeared. Within six months, the nine-year injury ordeal was over. 'I actually felt better than I did prior to the injury,' he says.
