At first glance, David George's story sounds similar to those of many service members returning from Iraq or Afghanistan with PTSD. While deployed in Iraq, he witnessed and was part of a traumatic event, and about a year after returning home, his life was spinning out of control: he was anxious, depressed, prone to recklessness, seeking relief through alcohol. The rest of David's story, however, is different, and one that Operation Warrior Wellness made possible for him.
It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring
fulfilment to the field of health.
One day David heard a radio ad for a research study on the effects of Transcendental Meditation on PTSD, writes Christine Leccese in the Military Pathways article. He ''jumped at the chance'' to be part of the study, and signed up.
The first time he practiced the technique, for those twenty minutes he was free of anxiety. He started looking forward to each following day's practice. Then, the calm that he felt during Transcendental Meditation started seeping into other parts of his day.
''I'm so happy and I'll never stop'' practicing TM, David says. ''It has this compounding effect and gets better every day.'' Transcendental Meditation turned David's life around, and could be a great option for other people with PTSD, Ms Leccese concludes.
