In addition to reducing smoking, blood pressure, and cholesterol, another study shows that the Transcendental Meditation technique also reverses the development of atherosclerosis.

This study is part of the large body of published research, supported by the (US) National Institutes of Health, that has shown the Transcendental Meditation Technique to be highly effective in treating cardiovascular disease. Because Post-Traumatic Stress (PTS) is associated with greater risk of heart attacks, the findings are especially important for veterans.
Patients at risk for cardiovascular disease who learned Transcendental Meditation showed significantly reduced carotid artery wall thickness after nine months, a surrogate measure of reduced atherosclerotic plaque, compared to health education controls who participated in classes on conventional lifestyle modification.
