Successful journalist uses TM to stay on top - and healthy

1 February 2012
Julie Eagleton has always worked as a writer. For a number of years the British journalist had her own column in the well known theatre magazine, Plays and Players, featuring interviews with leading performers from stage and screen.
Now, as a freelance journalist, she has greater freedom to travel, writing lifestyle and travel articles for The Times, the Telegraph, and the Independent. It has also given her the opportunity to cover the subjects she loves most—art, design, fashion, film, and theatre.
But being freelance has brought additional challenges, and Julie has been determined not to sacrifice her energy and health to keep on top, creatively, of what is a very competitive field. So, she decided to learn Transcendental Meditation.
''Since I learned to meditate seven months ago, I have found that I am able to concentrate and focus for much longer periods of time without getting tired. It helps with creativity too—I have found that ideas come much more freely and with greater clarity. A side benefit is that it seems to have helped with my guitar practice!
'I also think it helps with relaxation, enabling me to sleep much better, which itself benefits everything. Transcendental Meditation makes me feel centred, grounded, positive, but most of all it makes me feel like my true authentic self.''
You can read her interviews with a range of stage and screen stars, on her website, http://julieeagleton.com/interviews.html, as well as varied features on art and culture, fashion, food and wine, health and beauty, and travel.
Julie is currently also writing a children's novel, which she is quite excited about.
