There are now three types of training in the holistic science of Maharishi Ayur-Veda health care. The first two types are designed specifically for medical professionals, while the third, newly inaugurated course is for people who are interested in deepening their understanding of Maharishi Ayur-Veda and helping patients receive good care.

This is the Maharishi Ayur-Veda Wellness Consultant Certificate Training Program.* The first weekend module in this five-module course—the first of its kind to be offered in the world—was held in October.

According to Dr Stuart Rothenberg, Director of Health Professional Training Programs at Maharishi Ayur-Veda Association of America, this course is 'for people who are not currently health professionals to be trained to be consultants in Maharishi Ayur-Veda—so they can guide others to achieve the goal of Maharishi Ayur-Veda, which is perfect health through this knowledge.'

Dr Rothenberg continued, 'This fills a tremendous need now as the whole paradigm in health care is shifting to integrative medicine and more wellness-based approaches.

'There is a growing and recognized need for a middle-level practitioner who is not the doctor—because the doctor does not have the time to educate the patient and client in all the changes that they need to make in order to be healthy.'

These things are better done by a different kind of practitioner whose job it is to make the time to make sure the patient is fully informed. This practitioner would be able to make and maintain a relationship with the patient over time.

This new position is called health coaching or health consulting.

'It's a big and emerging and growing profession which has caught the attention of major universities and hospitals,' Dr Rothenberg said.

This course is Maharishi Ayur-Veda's entry into the field. Dr Rothenberg thinks it will be easy to lead the way in this field because the knowledge of Maharishi Ayur-Veda is holistic and complete.

'We have the solution to all these vexing questions which are debilitating the modern healthcare system.'

Overall, the new Maharishi Ayur-Veda Wellness Consultant Certificate Training Program is a 105-hour course taught over the span of five three-day weekends. The second weekend module* will be given in the middle of January, with the last three modules to closely follow.

* It is still possible to sign up to join the entire training programme—see: Still time to join new Maharishi Ayurveda Wellness Consultant Training - 2nd module January 19-22. The programme is offered through Maharishi College of Perfect Health at Maharishi University of Management, and may be taken live at MUM in Fairfield, Iowa, USA or at a distance by interactive web-conference.
