World-renowned psychiatrist, researcher, and bestselling author of Transcendence shares experiences and insights from his 30 years of clinical practice and research.
This first-ever Internet Q&A will feature Dr. Rosenthal taking questions directly from Twitter. He'll share what he's learned in decades of practice successfully helping people overcome debilitating depression and a variety of other conditions.
Dr. Norman Rosenthal
Currently a clinical professor of psychiatry at Georgetown University School of Medicine, Dr. Rosenthal has authored several books, including Winter Blues, which is not only a popular description of the story of seasonal affective disorder (SAD) and light therapy, but also a survivor's manual for SAD sufferers. His research in describing SAD and his pioneering the use of light therapy have helped millions of people. He is also the author of Transcendence: Healing and Transformation through Transcendental Meditation.
''Throughout my career,'' says Dr. Rosenthal, ''I have specialized in discovering novel ways to improve people's lives and alleviate suffering, and in doing so I've straddled the worlds of conventional and alternative medicine, trying to find what works, regardless of which discipline that may involve.''
''I studied psychiatry in 'The Golden Age,' where we learned both how to use medications and how to do psychotherapy. Since then, of course, all sorts of new therapies have come along, such as light therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), chronotherapy (manipulating circadian rhythms), and, most recently, meditation as therapy.'' In his book Transcendence, Dr Rosenthal provides ample supporting evidence for the latter, and he will be glad to discuss these issues at the live event on November 21.
''The 'Living with Transcendence' interview is the result of a growing response from the public, as well as a deep desire on my part to connect with the audience that is drawn to my latest book, Transcendence,'' Dr Rosenthal comments. ''Furthermore, I will be taking questions about Transcendence and my book Winter Blues: Everything You Need to Know to Beat Seasonal Affective Disorder.''
Dr. Mehmet Oz
TV's famous Dr. Oz says, ''Transcendence is a profoundly important book on a topic that you need to know a lot more about. . . . Dr. Rosenthal is one of those rare professionals who is able to mix authority and accuracy with riveting stories that read like a novel.''
''In Transcendence, he has given us all a gift that will enlighten, entertain, and perhaps even transform. This will become the go-to book for those searching for the wisdom within meditation.''
Dr. Rosenthal will be interviewed by Ms. Heather Hartnett, a writer, producer, and specialist in marketing for Web-based start-ups and an array of new media. She also serves as the Director of Communications for David Lynch Foundation Television (DLF.TV), the online TV channel which showcases the good works of the David Lynch Foundation.
