An evidence-based approach: David Lynch Foundation programmes for at-risk groups supported by research

The David Lynch Foundation's programs to help at-risk youth, veterans and their families, and other underserved populations overcome traumatic stress through the stress-reducing, health-promoting Transcendental Meditation (TM) technique will be the focus of the third annual 'Change Begins Within' benefit gala, December 3, 2011 at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, USA.

The success of these initiatives is based on the proven effectiveness of the Transcendental Meditation program, which has been documented by extensive scientific research.

An evidence-based approach

∙ More than 320 studies conducted at independent medical schools and universities and published in peer-reviewed scientiļ¬c journals, including the American Medical Association's Archives of Internal Medicine, and the American Heart Association's Stroke and Hypertension.
∙ $26 million in grants from the National Institutes of Health and the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute
∙ Research results for heart health include reduced hypertension, cholesterol, atherosclerosis, heart disease, stroke, and mortality rates due to all causes

Meditating veterans with PTSD
∙ A 50% reduction in symptoms of PTSD
∙ Reduced psychosocial symptoms of anxiety and depression
∙ Reduced insomnia
∙ Balanced serotonin and norepinephrine levels
∙ A regulated sympathetic nervous system Meditating youth with PTSD
∙ Higher scores on intelligence tests
∙ Improved test scores
Reduced ADHD and other learning disorders
∙ Reduced stress levels, anxiety, depression, violence
∙ Reduced substance abuse
∙ Reduced absenteeism, dropout rates, suspensions, expulsions
∙ Higher graduation rates
