An article recently appeared in a prominent Belgian newspaper about the latest research of Dr Robert Schneider, MD, FACC,* and colleagues, which links practice of the Transcendental Meditation Programme to reduced risk of heart attack.
After the article appeared, leaders of the Global Country of World Peace in Belgium provided top health officials in the country with an introduction to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's programmes for health—particularly in the area of cardiovascular disease, including the recently-published study findings highlighted in the news article: that Transcendental Meditation helped heart disease patients lower risks of heart attack, stroke, and death by nearly 50 per cent.
Speaking on Maharishi Global Family Chat,** Dr Stijn Vandenbosch, National Director of Belgium for the Global Country of World Peace, commented that the favorable press would reinforce already mounting interest in holistic medicine—one top official has already expressed support for complementary and alternative medicine, as well as for traditional Indian Ayurvedic medicine in particular. Dr Vandenbosch also noted that this was an encouraging factor for the implementation of Maharishi Ayur-Veda, the world's oldest and most comprehensive system of natural health care, for the health and well-being of the whole population.
* Robert Schneider, MD, is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, Director of the Institute of Natural Medicine and Prevention at Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa, USA, and Dean of the Maharishi College of Perfect Health; Director of Health in the national administration of Dr John Hagelin; and Deputy Minister of Health for the Global Country of World Peace. He co-authored the book Total Heart Health—How to Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease with the Maharishi Vedic Approach to Health.
** Dr Vandenbosch 's report was featured on the 19 December 2009 Maharishi Global Family Chat, broadcast daily via Internet webcast on the Maharishi Channel, Channel 3. Podcasts of the daily Global Family Chat (audio track) are also now available for automatic download, via an RSS feed.
