On 9 October 2009, the Global Financial Capital of New York, located at 70 Broad Street, New York City, USA, will host a conference on the topic of clinical depression and how it can be alleviated through practice of the Transcendental Meditation Programme.
Recently speaking on Maharishi Global Family Chat*, Dr Mario Orsatti, National Director of Communication for the Global Country of World Peace in the US, reported that the conference will be titled 'Overcoming Depression in the Recession', with reference to the current downturn of the global economy.
Speakers at the event will include Dr John Hagelin,** who will address the vital role of consciousness in overcoming depression and in achieving total realization of human psychology. In addition, speakers will include Dr Norman Rosenthal, eminent researcher in psychiatry and psychobiology who conducted research at the US National Institute of Mental Health for over 20 years, and who is writing a book on Transcendental Meditation and its benefits for physical and mental health, and for every area of life.
Dr Orsatti noted that, according to a recent analysis published in the Journal of Clinical Psychology, businesses in the US are estimated to lose as much as $83 billion each year due to depression. The disease results in missed workdays, lost productivity, and poor job performance. 'At this conference, professional leaders will learn the effectiveness of Transcendental Meditation for enhancing cognitive function, and reducing anxiety, depression, and stress,' said Dr Orsatti.
The conference will take place at noon on 9 October, will be webcast nationally and internationally, and will also be archived online.
* Dr Orsatti's report was featured on the 15 September 2009 Maharishi Global Family Chat, broadcast daily via Internet webcast on the Maharishi Channel, Channel 3. Podcasts of the daily Global Family Chat (audio track) are also now available for automatic download, via an RSS feed.
** World renowned quantum physicist Dr John Hagelin is President of the David Lynch Foundation, Executive Director of the International Center for Invincible Defense in New York, and Minister of Science and Technology of the Global Country of World Peace, and Raja of Invincible America.
